The area
The centre is located in Twickenham and thus the market is in the Richmond and Kingston boroughs. Twickenham is a very central location to these areas and the centre itself is on a main road with great transport links to train stations and bus routes. The main road and all surrounding side roads are free parking. The area is mainly residential with some commercial not far away and is situated between three primary schools thereby creating an abundance of walk-by traffic. The road is a small commercial road with adjacent shops in a strip. The closest chiropractor is a well established clinic 2.4 miles away in Teddington.
The patients
Patient base is generally family based and local to the area. Walk-in trade includes the school run for 3 adjacent schools. There is a sports focus in the chiropractic practice and the massage practice. Some patients are on maintenance programs for both chiropractic and massage. There is also a build up class practice for tai chi, yoga, pilates and run club that supplements the clinic.
The clinic is still in start-up mode as all therapists work elsewhere, thus it has tremendous potential for the full time practitioner who has time to advertise and market the clinic properly. Running at a 50% capacity the clinic could draw easily 90k.
The staff
Currently the clinic has no staff. Reception is covered by the two owners and otherwise therapists are very independent being able to let themselves in, take payment and treat their clients. Marketing
Current marketing for the clinic as a whole includes continuous website updates, a monthly newsletter, a database of more than 400 contacts on the newsletter list. Advertising has been placed with local leaflets, local GPs on their appointment cards (continues for 2 more years), referral scheme in place and advertising at local fairs and in local schools. Good relationships have been made with local schools, sports clubs and the community.
Potential
The clinic has immense potential to gear the clinic towards a more "wellness based" approach. With the numerous other therapies and classes on offer the clinic can be utilised to its full capacity in terms of opening hours. The three treatment rooms can be chiropractic, massage or any other type of alternative therapy. The clinic currently runs at well below capacity and still covers costs and makes a profit. If the clinic were to have all 4 rooms utilised for 20 hours per week the income would be in excess of 90k and if they were utilised for 40 hours per week the income would be in excess of 180k with the current type of room rental. If another treatment room were used for chiropractic the income could grow greatly.
